Praises China-EU Cooperation to Help Green Transition
BEIJING, Nov. 22, 2024 /PRNewswire/ -- On November 22, 2024, the Delegation of the European Union (EU) to China successfully hosted the closing ceremony of the "Eco-friendly Ride 2024" event in Beijing. The event was aimed at celebrating the important achievements of the Sino-European cooperation program on sustainable development.
The "Eco-friendly Ride 2024" showcases vivid examples of China's green transformation, all of which have had a positive impact on people's lives. Invited by the Delegation of the European Union to China, four social media professionals rode across China, visited 16 China-EU cooperation projects and participated in four thematic events to promote environmental practices. The "Ride for the Environment 2024" covered 14 project sites in 12 provinces and cities in China, demonstrating the close collaboration between Chinese and European partners. The event was attended by nearly 300 participants from various organizations, including the European Union, the European Investment Bank (EIB), EU Member States' institutions in China, EU-funded projects and local partners.
Jorge Toledo, Ambassador of the European Union to China, emphasized at the closing ceremony that the fight against climate change cannot be delayed: "We cannot afford to choose inaction: inaction costs human lives and is much more costly than action. We need to accelerate and significantly increase global climate action." In addition, he noted that the EU and China have an important role to play in the global effort: "As countries gather in Baku, but the outcome of the COP remains uncertain, I call on China to work closely with the EU. China's engagement could be transformative for global climate finance efforts."
"Environmental Good Ride 2024" has accumulated more than 100 social media tweets, 10 blog posts and 20 videos, reaching more than 60 million user views through Weibo, WeChat, Xiaohongshu, Shake, Today's Headlines and Beili Beili, triggering a wide-ranging discussion on the impacts of international cooperation and green transformation programs.
At the closing ceremony, two social media bloggers who participated in the ride, Xiaoyu and Sun Crazy Man, shared interesting moments and backstories from their trip. They said that the trip was very rewarding and they look forward to participating in more activities to promote the concept of sustainability in the future. For the two bloggers, "Eco-Ride 2024" was an unforgettable journey that gave them the opportunity to ride through the vast and colorful China. From quiet country lanes to bustling cities, each stop vividly demonstrated the important role of Sino-European cooperation in sustainability.
After reviewing the highlights and unforgettable moments of the event, guests also participated in a variety of environmental fun activities, including an exchange of second-hand goods, the production of popcorn from the "green energy" of bicycles, and a quiz on "Eco-Roulette", among other interactive sessions.
The "Green Ride 2024" fully reflects the practical cooperation between China and Europe in the fields of environmental protection, climate change, biodiversity conservation and other green transformation. As two of the world's largest economies, China-EU cooperation is crucial to solving global challenges, and the China-EU partnership is key to promoting sustainable solutions.
